yeah, so that’s it for this week, I had horrible time with my pegdolls photo shoot, so I am tired after numerous trials. My picture still looks pathetic but that’s all I can manage with this weird hot weather.

The rain has come…

for an hour and here to celebrate the rain after weeks of infernal weather, are photos of rain drops , there were no dew drops since the heat evaporates any bit of moisture in the air.

I have been away for the longest time, but I have been crafting a bit whenever I make time.

I have been working with polymer clay and I am out of ideas at the moment. But I have been working with something new – peg dolls.

Here are some pics of the peg dolls I made … ( Hidan, Zetsu, Naruto,Tobi and Miroku)

Process, draw them out on paper and when satisfied with the look and draw it on the peg dolls like these guys, Genma and Roy Mustang.

Well the main reason I’ve been away from the blog and shop….too much Japanese Anime and Korean,Taiwanese and Japanese F4. I got hooked watching the Korean version and decided to check out the Japanese anime Hana Yori Dango. Once I finished watching the anime , I could not get enough F4, so I checked out the Taiwanese Meteor Garden 1 & 2 , while still waiting for the korean version to finish. I also watched the Japanese series and the movie as well. Finally its all over with the Korean series up for another season, I have started watching Naruto, Naruto Shippuden and Full Metal Alchemist and what not. They have become my inspiration to create my own toys using the peg dolls. I have done a few characters already , with most of the dolls coming from Naruto and one from Inuyasha and another from Full Metal Alchemist.

Maybe one day I will have a peg doll army ….haha.

Arty stuff that I have been involved with: Eric Carle’s House for Hermit Crab was the inspiration. They were made from polymer clay. I call it ‘Story in a Bottle’.

Now more baking. I made some Magnolia Vanilla Cupcakes. They were very simple to make and delicious to eat.

More baking again: this time, caramel cream sponge cake. The cream was a success though I can’t say the same for the sponge cake.

A new year

Not a fantastic picture, but we were not allowed to take pictures at the Esplanade theatre. This was The Nutcracker.

 

The holiday theme for last month was “Buildings and Construction”. We had a few exciting projects lined up for the kids. Firstly, we had to make a town entirely out of boxes and tissue rolls, which was fun but a bit tedious. Secondly, we made a gingerbread house – well I did the putting it together business while the kids watched. We also baked gingerbread men. It was comforting to know that I had at least a little bit of baking skills left in me.

 

 

 

I have to say my first attempt at baking gingerbread men was not so bad.

Just before the year was to end, my family made a trip to this interesting place  of worship at Loyang. Three different religious buildings were all located next to each other: Chinese, Muslim and Hindu side by side. If people of all religions could exist in such a state, the world would be a much better and safer place to be.

I was most impressed by  the ceiling of the Chinese temple with its incredible attention to detail. It was simply awe-inspiring. The pillars of the temple itself were impressive; the stone carvings were fantastic. Mad skills!

There is also the famous 4D stone, known for revealing winning combinations of lottery numbers to people. I did try staring at it for a bit to see if I could get it to reveal some numbers to me but that sort of thing doesn’t happen to a normal person like me does it?

With no luck at numbers, we headed to another temple near Changi and did some praying for a good year ahead and headed off to Changi beach.

It was good to see the sun,

the sand

 and the sea.

I have no idea when was the last time I went to the beach. I just stood there at the shore, getting my sandals wet – which was no matter since they are of PVC material. Many people have remarked how watching the waves is soothing to the mind and I definitely  have to agree. I was not pleased with my dad for cutting the trip short and heading back home.

26 December was my mom’s birthday and I decided to bake her a cake.

That was my first attempt at baking after 10 years. I had been in doubt about my failed baking adventure at 19 but the successful venture was a definite ego boost. Heh.

I have to say, 2008 was not a bad year at all for me. As for my new year resolutions, I didn’t get to complete them at all. So do I have any for 2009? I think I do.

Back to wordpress !

Yay I am back at wordpress!

After a brief period at blogspot, I am glad to be back. I kept getting shut down whenever I tried to log into wordpress. Miraculously it stopped shutting me down , so I can blog at wordpress hurrah!

Lots and lots of things have happened and i m just gonna surmarise  what has happened, the year is close to an end. I will say one thing though, 2008 has been good for me , I hope to say the same for next year.

A trip to the zoo and update on the shop

I brought my student to the zoo, it has been sometime since I last made a visit to the zoo. Here are some pics that I took that have been waiting to be uploaded for sometime, I m still trying to adjust to blogger.com , I still prefer wordpress, but I just have no idea what went wrong with my puter that keeps shutting wordpress down …sigh .

This was found at the entrance of the zoo, it reminds me of the animation Ice Age when the mammoth goes through the cave to find some drawings and he find mommy elephant and daddy elephant being together.

I have never seen such a big croc or alligator in my life , it was huge..

I have to say I was just a teeny bit scared of falling down into the area and come face to face with it…

We saw the usual giraffes, zebras and lions

We saw the most popular attraction …the white tigers, my student was so excited, her favourite animal after watching Kung Fu Panda, Master Tigeress.

The zoo seem to have all these statues and I really like them all…

It was fun going to the zoo after all these years !

What the?

This is from blogspot ….

Its been sometime, since I last moved to blogspot…after wordpress kinda crashed on me …boo hoo…but anyways I don’t plan to stop blogging.

I had to get up at 3 am in the morning to attend a special pooja sometime ago….it was quite an experience and after which I had an invitation for housewarming from my uncle all on the same day.

Upon reaching his flat we found a seafood restaurant with all these fishes and crabs waiting for their turn to the dinner plate.

I finally had a chance to go to batu cave in Malaysia last month , before heading off to Kuala Lumpur, we dropped by Johor Bahru Mariamman temple and had a hearty breakfast at a nearby Indian food stall.

and finally made it to Kuala Lumpur and onto Batu Caves

and later after climbing up the stairs all the way to the top harrassed by monkeys and rainfall ( although the stairs weren’t slippery just the occasional banana peels littered here and there by the monkeys… you get to see this beautiful statue

and you walk on to see that are more stairs to be tackled , going down and up again

and you see the main shrine

After praying , I went on to tackle the next set of stairs even further , 

unfortunately I did not take my camera with me to take pictures …..it was wonderful just to be there and see this…

and after a bit of wandering around I went down the steps to have another shot

The time was up to head back to our travel coach and this time I didn’t think the monkeys will bother me so I got to take some photos descending…

and this shot was taken roughly around the tip of the statue od Murugan..

It was a long and tiring trip but I enjoyed myself

Medley #001

Yup, I have been away for sometime…

The children had to make something for their mother’s day present , and being their form teacher, I decided to get them to do something cute and useful in way…
They got some red felt, some sequins,fake leaves, saftey pins , glue and scissors.

1. Trace a flower shape on the red felt ( Two sizes one big, the other slightly small )
2. Get the children to cut out the flower shapes.
3. Let them decorate the two flower shapes with sequins using glue on the top side only.
4. Place the smaller shaped flower on top of the big shaped flower
5. Place the fake leaf in between the two flower shapes, and apply glue in between the two flower
6. Let it dry and next cut a small piece of red felt , enough to fit into the space of a saftey pin
7. Get a saftey pin place the felt through the gap and apply glue onto the felt and press firmly to the back of the flower .

Hoping for inspirations once my parents teacher meeting and lesson plans are over and done with by next month.

Why is a butterfly called a butterfly?

Yes, I suppose that was the most silliest question ever , but how did the butterfly get its name. I couldn’t think of anything. Who was this person who initally named it and what was he / she thinking? An image of a block of butter with wings flying around was all I could think of. Margarinefly , Lardfly and whatever…anybody knows why..let me know thanks!

The weather , yes the weather is becoming unbearable. Lately it has been getting waay too hot for anyone here. I stick to the fan, since its uses less electricity then the air conditioner, doing my bit to consume less electricity and also lesser electricity bill to pay.

and here at 6pm, it feels like its 12pm in the afternoon…..

well, what else can I say about the weather, its just hot, heat, blazing , inferno, hellish ….and all the words to desrcibe this horrible weather… its making anyone and everyone grumpy.

My sister has graciously (finally!!!) allowed me to have my own table in our room.
She decided to change her rather large table and decided that I should be allowed a table too, after checking this Ikeahack website.

I found this table mat at some shop and used it for my table…

koi fishes and cherry flowers…

I had this Ikea storage / display unit for a few years now, it was just housing some knickknacks and cds.

I covered it with fabrics and applied acrylic sealer so that now I can use it to store my craft stash and etc.

Much more useful then before.

More crafting or beading really…this is my new craze and its so easy once you get your math sorted out.

Now to more important stuff….shopping!!

It’s the 1st of may and it’s labour day…one extra holiday …and looking forward to the weekend.

A new beginning…

this new year , to all who are celebrating, “Happy New Year”. No, its not the usual western calender new year that starts on January 1st. We have our own eastern calendar which has been going on for centuries even before the western calendar. Its more of a family event, we get new clothes, new stuffs for ourselves and do something like a spring cleaning. On the day itself, we have some prayer for a good year, and dress up in our new clothes and just enjoy.

What are my new year resolutions…

1.I hope to enrol into driving lessons and get it over with.
2.Take up drawing or jewellery making course.
3.Make more stuffies for my shop.
4.Keep creating more and not start slacking.
5.Learn something new everyday…if possible!
6.Hit level 70 with my shaman on warcraft.

Random Ramble No. 1
Lately have been watching some old flicks over and over again on dvd such as “magnificent seven”, “the good, the bad and the ugly”, “the great escape”.

The kids were forming words using the LMA for montessori language.

…I laughed so hard when I saw this , the poor crab.

I made pizza, I don’t usually order pizza as I always feel that there is never enough topping for the money you pay. When you make your very own, you choose the amount and the ingredients.
